The core categories are ceramic, vitrified (including GVT and PGVT), full-body vitrified material, double charge vitrified and porcelain each differing mainly in water absorption, strength, and finish options rather than being entirely separate materials.
Both work well; 600×1200mm gives fewer grout lines and a slightly more spacious look in medium-to-large rooms, while 600×600mm is more forgiving on uneven subfloors and remains the more commonly fitted size overall.
Generally not recommended. High-gloss and PGVT finishes reduce slip resistance in wet conditions; matte or textured tiles with verified DCOF/anti-skid ratings are the safer choice for wet-area floors.
GVT is a digitally glazed vitrified tile; PGVT is that same base tile mechanically polished after firing for a glossier surface. Both are vitrified tile categories, while full-body vitrified material refers to a different body construction; verify the actual body and technical specifications of the product you are buying.
Floor tiles attract 18% GST. Always ask your dealer to show this separately on the quote, alongside any freight charges, so you're comparing landed prices rather than base rates against a competitor's all-inclusive figure.
Budget 5–10% extra for standard straight-lay patterns, and 15–20% for complex layouts like herringbone or diagonal, or for large-format tiles above 800×1600mm. If you're unsure which bracket applies to your layout, ask your installer to review the room plan before you place the final order.
