Get answers to common questions about wooden tiles
Wooden finish tiles provide the appearance of wood while offering better moisture resistance, no risk of warping or termite damage, and significantly lower maintenance over time. In Indian climates especially in humid regions or on ground floors wooden finish tiles are the more practical choice.
Porcelain wooden tiles with water absorption below 0.5% and a textured or brushed finish with adequate slip resistance are suitable for bathrooms and wet areas. Standard ceramic or vitrified wooden tiles with higher water absorption should not be used in wet areas.
Regular sweeping or vacuuming followed by mopping with a mild, non-acidic tile cleaner is sufficient. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, oil-based polishes, and acid-based cleaners all of which can damage or dull the matte glaze surface over time.
Digitally printed wooden tile surfaces can show fading or glaze dullness over time, especially in glossy finishes with direct sun and rain exposure. For balconies, select anti-skid textured tiles specifically rated for outdoor or semi-outdoor use, and use an outdoor-grade grout.
Matte finish wooden tiles are generally easier to maintain in daily use because dust and scuff marks are less visible than on glossy surfaces. Regular mopping removes everyday dirt without needing special products.
Wood-look ceramic tiles are available from roughly Rs 42 to Rs 379+ per sq.ft., depending on material grade and brand. Luxury Vinyl Tile or Vinyl Plank flooring typically ranges from Rs 150 to Rs 400 per sq.ft. For most residential projects, mid-range vitrified wooden tiles offer better long-term durability than LVT at a comparable or lower price point.
Matching or near-matching grout to the tile tone is the standard recommendation. Contrasting grout breaks the wood floor illusion and makes individual tiles stand out. Narrow grout joints, ideally below 2mm for plank formats, further strengthen the wood floor appearance.
